Another day ... another batch ... and at this point we have completed the arduous task of introducing to you the candidates of the Mr. Expo World Philippines 2008. At this time, some of you have already bets on who will come out grinning tonight ... with sash in one hand and a trophy on the other.
And as Philippines thirst for another international winner ( Alexander Aquino won Mr. International in 2001, Vincent Pinto placed third in Manhunt Int'l 1997, but nobody has come close to these positions recently. Marvin Wijangco was semifinalist at Manhunt this year and Iago Raterta had the same semifinalist spot at Manhunt 2005. Other pageants like Mr. World and Mr. International and we come up empty handed.
I was looking at the ex Mr. Expo winner from Puerto Rico ,Omar Martinez, and I only wish the judges should see him in person, before they cast their votes. He was short all right, (maybe about 5 ft and 7 inches) and I thought his facial beauty make up for whatever he lack in height.
He was dwarfed when placed side by side with six footers, but he looked like a giant when his face and smile radiates vermillion in the stage.
Of course, there is no clear-cut secret in winning pageants. Selection varies from year to year, from one judge to another. But beauty of the face is a MUST, and LUCK also plays an important ingridient to the recipe.
Now I wonder if Raymond Lim fared better had he been given the chance to compete last year.
