When we see OH Boy Oh LOL two days ago at the Music Museum,we entered the theater with no expectations at all. The heat and the temperature outside is trending towards intense and excessive, so we are here to while our time and if there will be surprises somewhere a long the way we will accept it with no complaints at all. Well .. the show indeed to our surprise was sharp tongued, and occasionally potty mouthed ... and it rarely is at a loss for words. Hyped as Fun and Sexy night with Derek, Rocco, Dave and Jak, we got the initial glimpse of the production blushing and speechless.
The show started with a Backstreet Boys monster hit ... Derek, Rocco, Dave and Jak really have a good take off. The opening number was well thought of and thanks to the leads cutesy (cute to some mawkish extent) appeal, the opening salvo succeed in putting an added gasoline to an already rambunctious and boisterous audience. For a while I told myself .. " OMG . we are really in for a good show tonight. It gave us the impression we are really getting a concert of sort. But that was it I guess! The opening act was its redeeming value and anything after that was "pinagtagpi-tagping" production numbers that neither titillate nor excite especially in a sexual way. Dave Bornea's solo number fall flat and Derek Monasterio's attempt to invite somebody from the audience onstage did not illicit the much needed sexual heat. There were some who screamed as a sign of their undying approval but my auditory and aural decibels said: the screams was just a whimper ... it was not enough to award it a two thumbs up in terms of breaking my eardrums? But in fairness to Derek, his pants was almost bursting at it's seams, showing how gifted he was. "His crotch really has a lot of promise ..." commented the audience nearby. Rocco Nacino's number did not help either and Jak Roberto's effort received lukewarm if not a tepid response.
Donita Nose and Super Tekla provided a comic relief. Some of the gags were old and recycled especially if you frequent comedy bars - you heard them already. The comic episodes abounds with toilet humor, and I was so shock to see Super Tekla almost stripped of his clothes and Donita Nose doing sexual mumbo jumbo to Super Tekla ... it was almost graphic. I look back to see the audience reaction ... somebody was covering her eyes in horror. Indeed the comic duo's witty ad libs were not for somebody who offends easily. I was privileged though to be given the best seat in the house as I was sitted next to GMA stars Jay Arcilla, Nikki Co, Prince Clemente and Kevin Sagra members of Boyband One Up. They were there to give support to Dave Bornea. Incidentally, it was Prince Clemente birthday too. Two rows before us was Barbie Fortaleza prominently supporting the leads of the show. And the GMA's head honchos were also there to be counted.
Now going back to the show ... like going to a cooking demonstration, there was no sampling of the product .. we admit we were not prepared for it. There was a lot of drooling going on what with the four leads youth, virility and manliness. But Donita Nose and Super Tekla's exchange of punchlines was not for the faint of heart. It was quite explicit ... but we have a good time and would recommend it to open minded theater-goers if the show will have an encore.Beware though... no one goes home unscathed!
