Review: Bench in their latest excursion, released its latest pro-LGBT commercial. This time, the Bench ad shows threefold stories in an otherwise tight two-minute commercial. First story showed the unconditional love of a father to his gay son. The second is a double life of the central character JR (how flamboyant and free he is inside campus showing his true colors, and when he comes home he turned around like clockwork showing the other side of himself especially when he is with his Dad. The third story was innocent flirtations with campus jock with Bench perfume as the backdrop
The story opens with Dad driving his son JR to school. When Dad left they have a"fist bump" with JR's cap facing backwards ... giving the audience the impression JR is just one of the normal kid around. As his Dad's car zooming out of the scene, JR took out the Bench perfume from his bag and gave himself a generous whiff of the perfume, he even sprayed it in air leaving a cloud of the perfume then took off his cap, and showed a different and a flamboyant gay-ish JR.
In school, the next scene showed JR and his friends meeting his crush Marco Gumabao, the campus jock. Marco paid JR a compliment right away when he said "Ang bango mo ah" to which JR responded "bango pa lang yan". When JR went home, he wore his cap backwards again as always. His dad smelled his perfume and told him: "Amoy chicks ang anak ko ah ..."
The next day JR and Marco met again. JR told Marco: "Ang bango mo ..." to which Marco respond: " Mas mabango ka ,,," JR was tickled pink and was in cloud 9 with that comment. In a later scene when JR went home, his father teased him: "Ano girlfriend mo na ... and Jr responded: "Ikaw talaga Pa."
The next day, while reading some notice/announcements in the school hallway, Marco made unknowingly "akbay" to JR's shoulder and JR was seen grinning with excitement. He went home later still wearing that he-is-in-love-with-me-too smile, so his father teased him: "Amoy panalo na naman ..."
The last scene showed JR ran out of his Bench perfume. Running out of the perfume was bad but the worst came later when he saw and realized that Marco already has a girlfriend. When he got home, his father noticed that he feels devastated and dejected so he asked him: " O ano wala na ba? Kailan ka ba magkuwento?" JR told him “Later, Pa” and entered his room. There, he saw a new bottle of Bench perfume, and a note from Dad.: “Anak, amoy kita. Love you! (Son, I smell you. I love you!)”
All the while, Dad already know JR is gay. He is just waiting for him to open up. THE END
