2002 saw Venezuela in its worst political crisis, so Mr. Venezuela was shelved and was postponed to 2003. Another new thing in the contest was the fact that the voting public was given the chance to vote for their favorites who sent messages of support via text messages in their phones. The result was encouraging and thus paved a new twist in this annual drama.
2003 was also the years when almost all the top models in Venezuela joined the contest. Many of them were still working in the runway, acting or were doing some TV spot. Claudio de la Torre who represented Anzoategui was third top gun, Jacinto Oropesa who represented Delta Amacuro was second, and Andres Mistague of Carabobo was the top winner.
Claudio went to Manhunt International 2005 in Busan Sourth Korea. He was magnificent in his national costume but was only second in that department. In the finals he was one of the semifrinalists, but the title was stolen by Mr. Turkey Tolgahan Sayisman. Latvia was second, Curacao was third, China was fourth and Puerto Rico fifth.
