MR. Venezuela 1999 started with a lot of furor and heat , when candidates ofthe contest had a man to woman tete-a-tete with Venezuela's Oprah Winfrey Miss Maite Delgado, (she herself being a beauty queen in her time). The group was impeccable and television audience had their mouth open watching all that hunky manly specimen talking, you can pinch yourself if your dreaming or not . Ernesto Calzadilla was a graduating student in aquaculture then and he is not the only one that shone that day. If 10 Mr. Venezuela can be accomodated in Manhunt that's fine, because they can be winners themselves. They are even more good looking than the reps of other countries. Sorry to say that.
Ernesto Calzadilla was scheduled to represent Venezuela in Mr. World being the top winner, sad to say Mr. World didn't live up to its promise of being an annual affair. So that when Ernesto showed for Manhunt 1999 in Manila, I asked him where Numa Delgado was , (He was the other top winner), and Ernesto responded with a No Comment reply. What I find endearing with Ernesto is his penchant in trying to communicate with me in English even though he is sweating bullets everytime he opened his mouth. Although he bungled his English every now and then, he didn't care less.. What a true gentleman!

Ernesto Calzadilla won Manhunt 1999 (Gloria Diaz Miss Universe 1969 was one of the judges). John Abraham of India , his most credible rival won second. The two seemed to share the same parallelism, because when both went back to their countries , the movie industry is waiting. . John Abraham went straight to Bollywood, same with Ernesto. Ernesto however made a wider splash- as he tried with television, movies, stage and even behind cameras. In 2001 Ernesto tried theater via "El Monologo de la Penehabilidad". He also conquered television: Chatodromo in 2003, Chatodromo Recarcado in 2004, Telebingo Familiar in 2004, La Fea Mas Bella with Televisa in 2006 and Fama- Suder Y Lagrimas in 2006 to 2007. He also did movies the most popular being "Somewhere In Venezuela" in 2002.
